  My only question is why can't we all live in a place like that?

Easy, Rich-Cheap people pay to have the buildings built to make money. High-end design cost $$$$ which cuts into their bottom line...

Architecture is one of the few "arts" that is at the mercy of having somebody else pay for your vision. Unless you're a 1% (Gherry, Hadid, FLW, Johnson ect...) you get these "Normal" clients that want a high design project, but don't want to pay for it... This is especially true here in the states. I find Europe, Asia, & Au are more open to paying for high design, where here in the states, it's all about the bottom line and buildings are engineered for a 30year shelf life. Kind of sad really. And wasteful.

I deal w/ this everyday, but I wouldn't change it for the world. Not every project is a winner, but then you get a client that appreciates design, it rekindles your soul all over again.

These are excellent; I had real trouble filtering out the other tourists when I was there last year. It is also interesting to note that I am not the only person to time their tips to coincide with the erection of scaffolding

Yeah agreed ... it gets very busy at many of the typical tourist spots so I decided to focus on elements of detail in most places rather than the whole. They are doing a lot of remedial work and it looks quite different to when I first visited. I don't think the scaffolding will be there much longer.

Ta! Az2 ... BTW, you take the monopod to Africa with you and, if so, how was it? Am wondering if I should go for the tripod or just the mono. The tri will be better for evening waterhole shots but more bulk to fly with.

Agreed ... same with all creative professions: it's the time to reflect and the attention to detail that makes the difference and that is what costs the kind of money that many won't want to pay.

Cool - lotsa curves - must have been a bugger to build. That architect was a bit before his time, I reckon. What a mind!

Thanks, Dave, for pictures of something I have never imagined. Fantastic stuff.

Cheers ... really appreciate the comments. Check out my 2 Gaudi threads in urban which show interiors. Wonderful to walkaround the place and people are living in most of the apartments. I'd love to do the same :-)

very cool...I really like the second.

I've only seen shots of this building from across the street of the facade.

sorry for the mini thread hijack, but anyway, yeah, too bad we (Americans) won't spend more on insane design like this. I work for an engineering firm and we have a cool, glass and granite, wavy looking building. It was built in the mid 1980's for $10 million for a bank. The bank went bankrupt (kinda ironic, huh?) a year or two later and my firm bought the building a few years later for less than a million. Because of the weird design, the building had little to know market value.

Not way out there in terms of stylized design, but it's pretty unique in poky old Amarillo, Texas.

Well worth going inside .. not sure your building will be such an attraction in years to come, at least the internals :-)
