not as good of shot as yours but a similar train but it has the cab in front because of tunnels. Yours looks much better :)

Awesome shots. The Big Boy was truly a technological marvel.

The SP cab forwards are pretty neat also.

Wishing I could have been around in the days of mainline steam...

UP has an operational Challenger (4-6-6-4) which is pretty big, too. It's too bad these beasties are so expensive to restore. Wouldn't it be spectaculary seeing one of these things pulling a big train up Sherman Hill? It used to be a common sight.

I'm not short. I'm concentrated awesome!

LOVE EM! Thanks! :D I think I saw one similar in Elko Nevada some fifteen or twenty years ago.
It was the BIGGEST Engine I have ever seen.

Greg, Yours is quite unusual. Dont think I've ever seen one like it before. Thanks for sharing.

The Captain and crew finally got their stuff together, now if we can only remember where we left it.

I'd love to restore one of these and use it for excursions between Landrum, SC and Asheville, NC...climbing the Saluda Grade (external link)...that would be a sight to see.

Wow.... I am so glad you posted this. My father died a couple years back. He was from Pennsylvania and often mentioned the Big Boy. One of my memories of him when I was little was of his telling me stories about this huge train engine.

I had never seen one until now. Thank you.
