Gavin -- Superb as always and obviously under deplorable conditions at that. #3's absolutely perfect for this set and the B&W conversion adds to the perfection. It also proves that beyond being an exceptionally talented photographer you also have an eye for seeing and capturing art that some of us just don't possess.

Jerry ~ Baseball is a game where only defensive players handle the ball and offensive players who hit successfully in only one third of their at bats are among the best in the sport.

Lovely shots as ever from Gmen, one question I will ask to all is do you all stick at 1600 ASA ?

In the second half of matches (this time of year) & night matches I always go to 3200 asa (with a 20D). 've tried sticking to 1600 250/ but I find some shots aren't sharp enough for me.

Am I alone on this??

Off at a slight tangent - what do you use more frequently, BB or PM? Or which do you prefer?

PM for most sorting/captioning/wiring stuff... BB for proofing.

Cheers Rich. If the lights demand it, I'll got to ISO3200. I remember from personal experience that it's particularly tough at Field Mill.

Once I'm beyond 2/3 of a stop under at ISO1600 at 1/400s... then it's ISO3200 time.

It has to be said that the vast majority of Football League grounds I've been to (except Mansfield) allow for 1/400s, f/2.8, ISO1600 as a minimum. When it comes to the Non-League stuff, all bets are off !

Thanks for your reply Gavin, apprieciated. In truth,in print(newspaper) pix at 3200 appear fine to me,if you don't crop too much.

Hey up Kipax,It looks like I may have a chance to test out Accrington's lights sometime this season, hopefully. I bet I need to be on 3200 then...

No problem!

Here's one from my trip to Mansfield last season at ISO3200 with a tiny dash of NR:

Just got me thinking as well.... were you at the Barnet vs Mansfield match just before Christmas? There were only a handful of togs there so quite likely that we saw each other:

Many thanks Jerry.

In all honesty, I don't dabble too much in the 'artistic' as I simply don't have a huge amount of confidence in that area. It's certainly something that I need to work on in 2007... hopefully I won't need to hope for more fog to do it ;)

Gavin,

That last photo that you posted, I can see its at ISO3200 - have you dont any noise reduction on it, or is it more or less straight out of the camera?

Am rather impressed with the noise (or lack of!) if there is no NR on it!!

By way of a 'reverse' example... here's an ISO1250 image with some NR... and it's just starting to head for the plastic man effect:

It's a very fine line.

Cheers Steve... I was thinking the same thing about the facial one... not something you see every day at the footy.

Hello Gavin,

Unfortunatley, I wasn't at Underhill the other week,I had a feeling it was going to be Shirty's last match. Sorry to see him go.I'd class him as a good friend, but that's football for you.

I remember the Grays match, about 12 toggies were there and Mansfield had to buy extra bulbs for the flodlights 'cos Sky was there, which was heaven for me!!

Have a good New Year may see you around the grounds somewhere.

I had a similar feeling about Peter Shirtliff so I camped out by the dugout for the duration... and it has to be said he looked glum throughout:

Hopefully see you round the grounds before the end of the season - must be more than half a chance. Have a great 2007.
