The contest is closed and the voting is open, so this is your opportunity to best for the best photo that meets the theme.

The first rule of voting. Please please please leave a comment when you vote. This contest really comes alive when people just drop in,say hi and perhaps tell us why they voted for a particular photo. It makes the contest more fun and gives really great feedback for the photographers.

Other stuff:

  • The poll will remain open for 7 days.
  • You can vote for three photos. Your vote will be public.
  • Please don't vote for your own photos or invite your friends to register and vote for you. This is considered cheating and will be taken very seriously by the moderation team. See here for more information.
  • As before there will 1st, 2nd and 3rd place positions.
  • I will be announcing the names (aliases) of the people who win.

were we only supposed to vote for 1 photo?....i figured if we couldn't vote for more than one that it wouldn't allow the votes to go thru, now i see the results, and everyone eles voted just once...if thats the rule, i'd only like to vote for number 1, don't think i know enough about juxtaposition to even vote really, but i thought it was about showing contrast, and felt this was represented in the first shot

I voted for 17, but fear that I might be duped if this has been photoshopped with only one bird! Juxtaposition meaning side by side, this met the definition as well as not needing a title which a few of the others needed to just say what the meaning was. Nice picture, but IF it was a cloned bird, I wish to withdraw my vote.

Juxtaposition could be just side by side, or often can be used as side by side for contrast/comparison.

Voted for number 10. It was between 10 and 7 but decided on 10 since I'm a sucker for structural type pictures.

Here are some definitions posted in the contest thread:

Juxtaposition is an act or instance of placing two things close together or side by side. This is often done in order to compare/contrast the two, to show similarities or differences, etc.
In logic, juxtaposition is a logical fallacy on the part of the observer, where two items placed next to each other imply a correlation, when none is actually claimed. For example, an illustration of a politician and Adolf Hitler on the same page would imply that the politician had a common ideology with Hitler. Similarly, saying "Hitler was in favor of gun control, and so are you" would have the same effect. (see Reductio ad Hitlerum)
In music, it is an abrupt change of elements.
In film, the position of shots next to one another (montage) is intended to create meaning within the audience's mind.
In photo, the position of objects one upon the other (mounted) is intended to create meaning within the audience's mind.
In literature, a juxtaposition occurs when two images that are otherwise not commonly brought together appear side by side or structurally close together, thereby forcing the reader to stop and reconsider the meaning of the text through the contrasting images, ideas, motifs, etc. For example, "He was slouched gracefully" is a juxtaposition.
In mathematics, juxtaposition of symbols is commonly used for multiplication: ax denotes the product of a with x, or a times x. It is also used for scalar multiplication, matrix multiplication, and function composition. In numeral systems, juxtaposition of digits has a specific meaning. In geometry, juxtaposition of names of points represents lines or line segments.
In paintings, juxtaposition of colours, shapes, etc, is used to create contrast.
In physics, juxtaposition is also used for "multiplication" of a numerical value and a physical quantity, and of two physical quantities, for example, three times, would be written as 3π and area equals length times width as A = lw.
In grammar, juxtaposition refers to the absence of linking elements in a group of words that are listed together. Thus, where English uses the conjunction and (e.g. mother and father), many languages use simple juxtaposition ("mother father").

I go through at the end and disqualify those that have voted for their own photos.

Apologies, I cut and pasted from the last contest thread. It should have read THREE photos. Please PM me if you have already voted for one photo and would now like to vote for an additional two.

If you look closely at the birds you will clearly see that they have not been photoshoped. PM me if you have any futher concerns.

At the time I also seen, vote for only one. I voted for number 17 because I know how hard it is to catch such a sceene, and it is simple, black and white contrast. I also thought about the picture being PP, maybe the top one on the left, the tail looks a little fainter then the other back areas, but that could be part of the contrast, plus I really prefer nature shots of birds and animals for me.
I also liked the beams in the water but I was thinking moving one way to the left or the right, might have presented them different,( sorry I forgot the number, and I can't seem to figure out how to go to the pictures, with out getting out of this page) but the color is nice.

10, 13, 17 for me.

I thought, incorrectly, that the bridges were some sort of mirror effect. Then I noticed a service line running along the bridge on the left and realized the bridges are indeed individual bridges. That just blows my mind.

The colors in 13 are very nice. I liked the calming effect of the water and the colors with the danger aspect of "I wouldn't want to be near those beams while swimming."

The eagles in 17 gave me a wow effect. Great shot.

There's something nasty about number 4 "Red Hot Reflections." Maybe I'm looking at it too suggestively. My mind is full of rot.

I'm off skiing for a week so will not be around to close the contest tomorrow. Can everyone announce themselves when the poll closes?

NUMBER 10 WON? What's wrong with you people? I never get it with the taste of the voters in these contests. I mean, just look at that photo....

... oh wait, number 10 is that bridge photo. Nevermind. That's the one I said just blew my mind. Yeah, that's a GREAT photo.

Great job to whoever took that photo. You deserve to win this one.

My image is no. 17. Thanks for your votes. The only photoshopping on the birds is a little burning, dodging and sharpening.
