Farmers Ebb... (Color)

Finally got some time & a nice day to get and shoot. I was going nuts.
Some experimentation w/ my new GND System.

1)

Your first image is a good effort. I feel the GND filter is over done in this case with the sky too dark at the top. I realize you are experimenting. I've been looking for the dramatic solitary tree in a field scene but haven't come across just the right combination of tree, location and light so far.

The second image is a good exercise in diagonals, perspective and vanishing point. The colours are very good. Nice blue sky, green vegetation and red tank on irrigation machine. It's a well taken image.

I see the third as a good exercise in contrast between the geometric shape of the round bales and irregular shape of the tree. I think you are too tight on the round bales. I have often thought these bales would make a good subject as they are left in the open field by the baler.

Just some thoughts.

As you stated, this was definitely a time of experimentation. This was the first chance I've had to get out and shoot with this system. (Got them for x-mas)... So it was an experiment in Metering, Exposure, Filter adjustment, ect...

Shot #1 came out far more dramatic when converted to B/W... Seen Here.
But still Technically "Wrong"

Shot # 2 I'm very pleased with. However, I'm not sure this filter system in meant to do the type of still-life photography I normally do. It save the sky, but obviously you subject is effected by the -Stops of exposure as well. But I like the effect So Far.

In the image below, you can see some of the "problems" I need to work around. Although I bought the Wide Angle System from Cokin. The lens I used for all these shots was the EF-S 10-22mm, and most were taken @ The UWA of 10mm (eq FOV 16mm)

4) In this shot, the strong winter-afternoon sun was above and to the left, So I rotated the filters darkest edge toward the sun. But, as you can see it caused some vignetting.

That tree has some very powerful presence and I will definitely revisit it this winter. The Tree has nice form and is a lone tree in a sea of Green Winter Wheat. The Winter Wheat makes for a beautiful Green and will stay that way all winter.

I will Definitely be revisiting this scene under different lighting conditions in the future.
Also,I'm not sure the 10mm served the subject well either. But I wanted you to get a sense that it was in a sea of green.

I'm thinking maybe a morning shot. The tree will then be front-lit, and a different focal length.

There is some powerful contrast available here with the wheat being alive and green and the tree being alone and "dead"

6) Here is the tree & field at the time I shot the tree. It was about 2pm, high, harsh winter sun was back lighting the tree from the right side.
