My kids are giving me a S2IS to replace my A20 and from my reading on the net I'm going to need a lot of help with it as I am a point and shooter for sure. I have a mac-mini and use iPhoto only so far, am not very good with a puter either. So I'm wondering if there are any basic tutorials for someone like me on both the camera and ImageBrowser? Thanks for any help, hope I put this in the right place.

You can put the S2 in auto and use it without any knowledge of the inner workings.

Try a Dorling Kindersley book - Keep it simple series- Guide to Photography - ISBN 0-7513-4869-4. It's £8 in the UK and it leads you through from P & S to advanced. It's dead easy to follow and is a little gem. Alternatively just set up as auto and you are in P & S mode with a superzoom! Several friends of mine who were serious photo geeks 20 yrs ago do that with their superzooms, period & I often do it myself when out with my S3IS.

Panasonic TZ5 ;Canon IXUS 850; (Canon 400D, 17-85IS; 75-300; bag; filters and all that stuff given to my very clever daughter for passing her exams!)

There's a couple other threads here that have links to videos and stuff. I think one good one's the "Tutorial" thread.

I have the S2 as well, so I'll say congrats on your purchase. Auto in daytime will normally be fine if you don't want anything more, but for dark or night shots, if you're gonna use auto you better get ya a tripod, or else most of your shots will be blurry due to the slower shutter speed needed for dark time shots. My normal advice is READ the manual that comes with it. It's an easy read and does a good job of explaining the different settings and will give you a better understanding of some basics. I too was a p & s only, but wanted to learn photog, so I bought the S2 and I almost 99% of the time now use it in manual only so I can control the shutter speed, the ISO, and the aperture to achieve the kind of shot I desire. It's really much easier than you might think so just try after learning a bit.

Have fun!!
