Looks like you had some tough light to shoot in but I think practice is the key. How close are you to the subject? This lens seems to perform best at approx 380mm and I find that I need to be at least within 30 feet of my birds to get the greatest feather detail. Keep shooting!

More info | Dec 31, 2006 11:04 | #4 congrats on the new lens -it will get better when we get some decent light although the light on these 2 shots looks to have been quite good , No1 looks like you missed focus try to get the focus point on the head No2 is way over exsposed by about one and a half / two stops but a very nice pose hope you get chance with the heron again. You will find that its sweet spot is at f8, I have not found any real differance in quality between 100-400mm when its set with an f8 ap. Canon 20D, a bunch of lens and an empty wallet.

Don't forget that when panning use the IS in mode "2". The second shot is overexposed and dialing the EC to -2/3 would most likely have done the trick. That second shot also seems to be a heavy crop...thus losing lots of detail. Anyhow, it's a great lens that will yield many good results... Daniel Cadieux
