I've checked out the gaming portion of the wii and played with it a fair amount. Haven't seen the internet portion. Now it has a 10/100 port, but not wireless, right? Is there an adapter?

You're posting from it..wireless keyboard? Wired, even?

You might be the first person to own a Nintendo wii... or at least publicly admit to it. ;)

Actually, other way round. It's 802.11G but no network port. It needs to connect to something that will handle DHCP so you need a wireless router to get it online. Supposedly there will be an ethernet adapter, it just isn't available at the moment.

No keyboard for it. Onscreen keyboard much like using one on a PDA as the controllers work like a pointer.

The internet access is OK. It supports flash and a few other common extras. Thing is if you are viewing the entire screen the text is too small to read. To really read a page you need to zoom in and scroll around. Both have their own dedicated buttons, but basically its in no way replacement for browsing on a puter.

It includes a really nicely done photo viewer/slide show thing that reads images off SD cards. It even lets you edit and save them. Wonder if that means its a photography tool and I should save the receipt for a tax right off?

Here we go, PotN on the Wii. As you can see, the thing is pretty damn small. Barely larger than the two external hard drives sitting above it.

Oh yeah, and my TV is verrry old and verrry crappy.

Hey... we have the same phone system! Ah... the small things in life that make me happy.

So have you launched your controller across the room yet like so many seem to be doing?

Cool :) nice phone isn't it. Just wish I could find any of the extra phones, it seems to have been discontinued.

No but I can see why some people have. Some games are fine, but when it comes to the sport games they do tend to have you flailing around quite a bit. I can see how the simple addition of some alcohol could make things dangerous. I guess one good thing about having an old CRT is it wouldn't break quite as easily as a shiny new plasma or LCD tv. :)

Yeah, I bought the base phone plus 3 extra handsets when I got it over a year or so ago. You're right, though, they have been discontinued. Too bad, as I could use two more handsets, and the system works well enough to keep.

Now...the wii does HD, right? So..if I should hook it up to my HDTV with component, internet should look a lot better than it does on SDTV.

The Wii only does 420p. If you want HD you need to spring for an xbox or PS3. The Wii is basically a heavily overclocked gamecube with new controllers and a bunch of extra features.

Actually the internet does look a lot better than that. I think the photo just made it look particularly crappy.

So, what is the benefit to accessing the internet in this way, as opposed to using a computer? Other than the fact that you can.

Like I said a few posts earlier, the web browser is actually harder to use than a on a puter due to the limited resolution of a TV. It's really just a convenience thing, like being able to browse on a PDA or cell phone. I doubt anyone would buy this because of the web browser, but as free extras go it is definitely a good one.

It has some benefits for me, my kids are 6 and 4 and there are a lot of flash based web sites with great educational stuff for kindergarten and the first few grades of school. My kids like these sites and I'm fine with it as they are definitely designed as educational. They were the first things bookmarked on my Wii. Now they can visit those sites on that and not take away from time I could be posting on PotN. :)
