I would like to see images where the dust on the lens is an issue. I.e. not dust on the sensor (which I think it's more a problem than dust in the lens). So maybe someone would like to make sure they have a squeeky clean sensor and then take some images with their dusty lens - ranging from f/2.8 through f/22 - perferably of a blue sky, so it's easy to see the spots (just like you do when you spot sensor dust).

I haven't seen any issues. But if I get some free time to mess around, I'll do a test!

Yeah, I don't think there will *be* any issues. I have an old lens with some bubbles in the glass, and they never show up in images, even with f/22.

I wanted to wait a couple weeks before I voted, just to make sure. I've had the lens since Christmas with a combination of indoor and outdoor use. I took a close look at it last night and I cannot see any dust in it (I do keep UV filters on all my lenses, if that makes any difference). The lens is nice and sharp even wide open at 2.8 (similar to my 70-200 at 2.8 ) and the IS has spoiled me already. I'm still shocked that I can take sharp pictures hand held at 1/6 or 1/8 of a second. Simply amazing. All I can say is, now that I've experienced this lens, I cannot go full frame until Canon comes out with a 24-70 2.8 IS.

One thing I have noticed is people tend to have no dust when they use a filter.

Another thing is that the dust never effects the picture quality.

Good deal!

I sure hope that turns out to be true. I would hate to part with this lens now that I'm getting used to it.

I swear I posted a reply in this thread...

Haha, maybe I posted it in another thread or forum...

Anyway, What I basically said was my copy has loads of dust. I'm not sure if it affects picture qualiy or not. But think the issue is more than just dust from the side zoom...I notice a push of air out the front of the lens when zooming, so my theory is that some dust gets in the front (the air is noticeably less when a lens cap is on). My plan of attack is to get the lens cleaned by Canon, and then stick a uv filter on the front. And then see how it all goes.

well after owning this lens for a few months, i can say that there is dust inside the lens. that said, it doesn't appear to be visible in photos (despite my voting wrong in the poll...doh!).

No dust here, and I am relieved by that.
Talk about over exaggerated issue...

None after four months of intensive usage. UV filter allways on and no problem.

The second one is the right one , yeah , it 's collected alot of dust but not affecting on IQ .

I did not like it ............. my Sister loves it.

But if the price is as high as this is , then why Canon does not make it better?

I think the IQ of the lens is good but not so shockingly great or anything better than my Tamron, just acceptable , considering of its extremely arrogantly high price(the Tamron is 300USD with much better BQ).

The conclusion : the IQ is good but not remarkable or anything , and the BQ is lousy.
