Here's sharing a moonshot taken a few nights ago with the 20D + 500 f4 + stacked canon TCs from an altitude of 7200 feet, in northern Philippines. The lack of pollution and cool, thin mountain air allowed good seeing conditions.....:D

Apologies for the 900x1200 size, but this is the smaller 50% version of the photo. Here's a link to the 100% view (1800x2400) :

Woo Hoo!! Awesome!! The closest-to-the-moon shot I've seen by far... I'm kinda surprised that stacking 2x as well as 1.4x could turn out this good... Speaks well for 500mm prime.

Thanks, guys. The 500 f4 L IS is excellent, but at moonshots, the Sigmonster is even better....:D

Here's a similar 50% crop with the Sigmonster + stacked Sigma TCs, 2263 mm, taken through Manila's polluted skies early 2006:

Man, you keep getting closer and closer... Yea, the Sigmonster + TCs look a bit sharper on the smooth side of the moon. But that could be from other factors than the lenses... It's kinda hard to say with such delicate moon shots... It's fantastic regardless...

Thanks.... I got last month's full moon from the same high location and using the same combo (500 + stacked TCs).

I boosted the saturation and local contrast in post process to exaggerate whatever colors were captured. That resulted into some color fringing (according to some people... I'm acutely color-blind so I wasn't able to notice it during processing).

One of these days, I'm gonna reprocess it to remove the fringing...;)

The Sigma image is definitely the sharper of the two.

Also the full size image of the 500 has a bit of noise in the black areas.

Most excellent effort!

This is well done. Getting into the thinner atmosphere really helps with this type of picture-especially in the islands.
