On Friday I managed to stop into one of the fine Camera Stores in Town (my preferred, Vistek). I randomly inquired about the price of the 100-400 L IS; which to my suprise was on sale for $1749. They were out of stock. I had the associate print me a Backorder notice, so even though the sale ended, I can have it for the sale price (to to them being out of stock). I came home and left it on my desk, not thinking anything of it. Now this morning I called the store to have them notify me when it is in stock. To my excitment, I will be an L owner by Friday :)

why so much money? They sell for less than $1400 here in the states before rebates (B&H, Adorama, Buydig, etc). In any case- good luck with the lens. You can't go wrong.

if you do the conversion of 1400 us to about 1632 cdn right now, and since he went to a local store rather than ebay or something your going to pay a bit more

plus its canada almost everything is more expensive there :( I realize that more now after living there for 29yrs and the last 2 in the US

so its not a bad deal, he probably could have saved a few bucks if he imported it from the US but then with customs and shipping and all that BS sometimes its more expensive

If you ordered the lens from B&H Photo, you would have paid $93 CAN less for it (delivered to your door via UPS expedited). Then, whatever sales tax comes on top of that, would have probably increased your money saved to $100.00.
That is actually not much of a difference.....with Henry's and Vistek I have seen much bigger price difference in the past relative to major USA sellers.
