Nice work, love the celebration, nice isolation, he does look almost uncomfortable though! hehe is it that rare that you win? Very nice work as always. Is there any reason why you choose the 200mm over the 300 for the game? is it mainly for the closer action being too close at 120mm?

Fantastic shots, about time too for a win. My late grandad played for Accrington. I bet he'd be well chuffed at this result.

Good work.

Kipax,

Whats ys post processing, those images look far to clean to be straight out of the camera for ISO 1600, you using some kind of noise reduction? Jpeg or RAW?

I always shoot raw in dim , poor or night lighting... JPG for normal daytime..my deadline is 10.pm so dont have to rush :)

I put them into Bibble Pro that contains a basic Noise Ninja.. I keep that set on the basic setting and it works perfect... put in photoshop and sometimes a little noise removal....a little USM and away ya go... have some A4 from night matches in club shop... look nice and clean. all should improve when i get my 120-300 sorted... being picked up on 8th by sigma.

I dont think I ever post anything straight out the cam :)

Maybe I should shoot RAW a bit more often as the results are considerably better. Shot a couple of games in RAW and compared to jpeg there is no comparison....umm, may have to invest in some more 4GB cards!

The second shot looks a little 'plastic' to me, thats why I posed the original question!

There is no comparison to raw and jpg staright out the cam AFAIK .. the difference is the amount of processing you can do on a RAW and almost certainly with noise..

I batch noise reduce about 150 files from a match so dont really take the time over each one.. if I did then they would look even more perfect.. I could do the second one again to get even better results I guess. but didn't look too plastic to me :)

Try this one:)

Looks a bit better, it was the skin that looks a little un-natural in the first version, seems to be a little more texture to it in the re-processed version.

Useful tip that I stumbled across in here recently about Noise Reduction......although Tony, I'm not sure this would work with your workflow through Bibble.

However......

Assuming you do your NR through Photoshop CS2 you can apply the NR, then in the Edit menu there is an option "fade Noise Ninja" - this allows you to change the opacity of the Noise Reduction layer and reduce the plastic look.

If you use PS Elements, then this option doesn't exist, however I get around this by creating a duplicate layer, apply NR to the layer and adjust opacity in that layer, then flatten image.

This probably isn't the most practical element to put into your workflow if you're wiring from pitchside or on tight deadlines, however if doing prints etc it seems to work rather well.

Thanks to Muls for this great tip, the full thread is: http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=256048
