I currently own a Canon Battery Charger and a set of four rechargeable batteries (this one: http://****/ymgtmq) (external link), which I love and have been using in an old Powershot for about a year.

I recently upgraded to a Canon S2 IS, which takes four batteries at once (instead of two). I like to have a backup set at the ready. Unfortunately, I can't find the same kind of rechargeables. So I have a couple questions:

1. Do I need to use the exact same kind of batteries in the charger, or can I use another set of Canon batteries in it (was thinking these: http://****/yjwxdj)? (external link)

2. Should I just upgrade to the other set, which are "advertised" for the Canon S2 IS? Would there be any benefit in this, other than putting an extra chunk of money in the Canon corporate pocket?

If your charger can charge Ni-Mhi you can use any type of these batteries.
I suggest you use 2500 or 2700 mAh types for longer duration.

If the charger can charge Ni-Cad's then you can use any type of these batteries.

It depends on the charger mostly.

Good luck and Happy New Year ...;)
