These are some shots from a High School Hockey tournament that was held in Missoula over this weekend. All photos are from either the Missoula Bruins A team against Salmon, ID or the Missoula Bruins B team against Spokane, WA on Friday afternoon. As usual low light and dirty glass make this a difficult situation. Looking for a positive or negative comments to help me improve.

900, those are really good. 1 & 4 my favorites, as you caught the puck at just the right moment.

Never shot hockey, but it seems like it might be one of the toughest sports out there to shoot. Especially having to be behind glass and all.

Nice shots. Nos. 2 and 6 show some pretty cool individual action.

I like #4 and #6 the most - nice action! DOF works well on #6. Not certain of what is going on in #5 though.

Thanks David and softball29. I usually shoot at this rink during the night so I found a lot more light during the day except it was not very consistent due to the fact is was coming in through windows and only hit certain spots.

Big H, glad you liked the shots as well, #5 was the follow through after a shot but unfortunately the puck had already left the frame.

Thanks all for looking and commenting.

Like the shots John.

Wondering about #4, did he score or not?

Sure looks like he burned the goalie!

If I remember correctly he did not but it sure does appear that he has him beat. I think he went too far before getting the shot off. Glad you liked the pics.

pretty good. Are you shooting through the glass, in the penalty box, etc., etc.? Are you using flash directly, bouncing, wireless strobes, etc.? Just curious...I shot a lot of hockey in a rink where lighting is BRUTAL!

All shots were through the glass at the end of the rink. No flash, ISO 1600 lens wide open at 2.8. Shutter speeds vary as the day goes on but usually below 500. Glad you liked the shots.
