No way on Earth. Yeah its worth the price sort of but the 17-40 L is so much better. I thought this very thing back in the summer and bought the 17-35 to potentially replace my 17-40 L. It was not better, it was worse. So I sold it very quickly after buying it and kept my 17-40 L.

I have my 17-40 L for sale now but I am totally glad I didnt keep it.

This lens will fit all Digital/Film EOS cameras. I own this lens and love using it. It spends quite a bit of time on my 1D... but it does have some trade offs when compaired to the newer 16-35 f/2.8L or 17-40 f/4L. It doesn't have weather sealing, which in your case wouldn't be a big deal because you're shooting a 20D. The minimum focus is about 16-18in... I think the 16-35 has a minimum focus 9-10in. Now, if you're the type that looks at stats, the newer lenses are the way to go, but if you're looking to step into f/2.8L land and with some $$$ savings, IMO... this lens is the way to go. And at $850 that's a pretty good price depending on condition. Have you tried shooting any photos with said lens?
