I'd need more detail.

Can you use flash? I'd add a slave flash so you can capture movement sharply and at the distance. Your on camera flash will only be good for 5-10 feet.

Can you use a tripod? Without a flash that can reach you will need long exposure times so shake would be a problem without a tripod and your camera has no IS (Image Stabilisation).

x3 Zoom won't get you very close to the action. Do you want to take photos during a performance? What type of performance?

Sorry more questions than answers.:)

Max
There's no such thing as a bad photo, just the wrong audience.
EQUIPMENT: Canon Powershot S3 IS, 2x Transcend 2GB x150 SD, 2x 4GB Class 4 Dane-Elec SDHC, LensMate 52mm Adapter Tube and lots of stuff to hang on it.
A couple of flashes and a couple of strobes. My other camera is a Sony DSC-P200.

i would rather not use the flash to be considerate of the performers. the concerts i want to capture are mostly indie or rock. the clubs i usually go to for concerts are small or medium sized. zoom isn't so much a problem since i try to get as close to the stage as i can.

thanks very much
