Hi! I have a question about the S2IS flash adjustment, it has the auto adjust which actually is manual adjustment in 1/3 EV steps and manual which is three steps flash power adjustment.
In manual shooting mode only the manual three stage adjustment is available. So what does the automatic 1/3 EV step actually change if not the flash power? Hopefully someone understands what I mean.

Not the same. In auto flash energy is adjusted from "ideal" in 1/3 EV steps, the camera will evaluate ideal for each individual shot and then adjust the power of the flash by the requested amount (if possible).

In manual shooting mode only the manual three stage adjustment is available.

In manual flash setting you only have 3 levels low-medium-high, it is up to you to adjust aperture and or ISO to get the exposure you want with one of these fixed energy levels.

I hope I did?

Max
There's no such thing as a bad photo, just the wrong audience.
EQUIPMENT: Canon Powershot S3 IS, 2x Transcend 2GB x150 SD, 2x 4GB Class 4 Dane-Elec SDHC, LensMate 52mm Adapter Tube and lots of stuff to hang on it.
A couple of flashes and a couple of strobes. My other camera is a Sony DSC-P200.

Thanks for the reply, you did answer my question. It seems both modes have their advantages, I wish the M shooting mode had both available but can“t have everything I guess.
