From another forum a small group of us (3 ... barely even a group) beginner WP-wannabees are discussing getting together to form our own grass roots Wedding-Photography oriented workshops.

The first meeting is for sure, we'll take it from there. I think the effort will benifit from having more participants.

We're in So Cal (Orange County, Inland Empire, and Bakersfield) so likely will meet in LA or Orange County. First meeting sometime in January; after that maybe every 6 weeks or so (whatever works really). Purely weekend stuff.

The concept: a valuable exchange of technique and practices. This is not to just "go shoot with others". It's for the purposes of improving our chances to make it as future wedding photographers - ideally by making ourselves attractive 2nd shooter candidates for starters.

The initial plan:
The idea is to have a subject (like slave flash, Portriat technique, etc), give one another presentations, practice what we learned, have lunch, then go practice it on models (either hired or volunteers). Possibly even use laptops to see immediate results and critique one another. We'll probably EMAIL each other a presentation outline with helpful reading references.

2 of us have already scheduled to do weddings within the next few months and it is possible that participants will get invited to assist. I could see this (actual weddings or engagement photo sessions with signed releases) becoming a regular thing ... dream on hua? No really, why not?

Would love to hear if anyone here's interested to join in?

Thanks. Great suggestions. That would be a great complement to such a group.

Still; I'm really hoping to help form a little practice group to help flush out the errors and gain from one another's experience and insight.

That's great Grego! Would be honored.

It's really whatever date doesn't conflict. Feb 2 is out. Be nice to give ourselves enought time if prep is needed, and maybe pick up a few more participants.

PM me if you have preferences - I've yet to hear back on dates from the members of the other site. I'm thinking Sat Jan 20th or 27th - possibly at the Pasadena Botanic garden (can't recall the name of it). Where depends a little on who-all participates.

Our studio performs workshops here in Temecula (So Cal) as a response to requests from consumers who purchased digital cameras (point n shoot or DSLR) and would like a hands-on learning to advance their skills. We do this mainly for marketing in the area and the fee of $89 barely covers our cost. Workshop is open to anybody.

We would be delighted to do a workshop on wedding photography and maybe even ask WPPI to co-sponsor but haven’t had the time to pull this off. Maybe we should?

I'm interested. Like Greg, I'll know for sure when the date and location are confirmed.

That's great!

Where are you located?

I hate being wishy-washy because that's a turn-off, but it looks like we can set a date/location soon. If everyone could post their preference or suggestion, we'll just pick something and go from there.

I would have interest in that also. I'm game for spending $90 for a seminar from an experienced pro (like you) in a structured environment, then spend the afternoon practicing what I've learned.

It's not exactly what I was trying to put together here (free practice group) but it might be more productive.

Temecula is a long haul for me and I work days. It would have to be Sat/Sun.

If you schedule something (contengent on enought interest - say 5 paying students), and I can make the date, count me in.

I'm in the San Gabriel Valley. Weekends are better for me as well.

Again … the main reason for the $90 basic workshop is marketing. We’ve done these before and have received very good marks on the feedback forms.

It may be interesting to put something together for the experienced photographer. I believe you would like Temecula for wedding photography practice. Over fifteen wineries that cater to the wedding business. Excellent place for taking sunset photos of brides.

I’ll keep this in mind…thanks …. Dan

Thanks Dan. That sounds wonderful. Sounds like we'de need to find some more participants. If decide to do one, count me in!

I'd be interested in this, the more south the location, the better as I'd be making the trek from SD.
