Which of all the Canon L lenses would you vote for to be the Lord of All Lenses ? I meant if you are stranded on the most beautiful place on earth and allowed only ONE lens, which would you choose?

My initial choice would be the 70-200 f2.8 L but then it is not wide enough or long enough for some situations.

My first vote would be the yet to be released 28-300mm L lens for I've been using the soon to be discontinued (I think) 35-350mm L lens and I don't think I can live without it. :o

For me it would definitely be the EF 1200/5.6 L. I want to be able to see the prettiest thing in the world (i.e. a rescue boat) coming from way out yonder and be ready for it...you know, light the smoke signal fire, jump up and down, arms waving and screeming like a lunatic, etc.

It will also serve as a handy club weapon just in case there are unfriendly cannibals on the other side of the island.

I would go for the one that isn't invented yet.
You know, the 1-8000mm F1 IS USM in white with 2 red rings and a free crane to erect it on site. you haven't heard of it? tut tut, shame on you!

Actually, it WAS made by Canon a few years back. However, it was so heavy that Canon had to launch it to outer space to keep the weight more manageable. Beside, with such a long lens, the minimum focusing distance required it to be that far away from earth to be of any good.

At the most beautiful place on earth all the animals are tame because they never have seen any humans in their life. So no need for a telephoto lens at all. Wide angle will be definitively more important. What about a hand-selected copy of the 24-70 on a D1 MarkII camera?

no, no - that was the mark I, I'm talking about the mark II which is only 1 inch long but weighs half a ton and has the built in 200x converter that loses only half a stop when its turned on.

So, I have a few questions:
-What is the filter size for that bad boy?
-Should I use a UV, a Skylight, or ???
-Does ProMaster make such a filter? I don't think I can afford B+W for it.
-How do I rotate the Polarizer? Do I hire a small boy to climb out there?

 :) :D   :) :D

Have Fun

I'd also want the 1200mm L.

Then I'd sell it on Ebay, get a Mark II and 20 other lenses, and get Gitzo an artificial leg.

You can take my 100-400 L away when you pry it from my cold, dead fingers.

I love my 100-400L but I think I would have to say it is the 180mm. That lens is so sharp and the bohken is outstanding.

NiL,

Canon 1D Mark II, 24-70 f/2.8L, 17-40 f/4L, 70-200 f/2.8L. 580EX, 4 - Alien Bees, Gitzo Tripod, Bogen Monopod.

Amazing. I can't understand how people can sing praises about the 28-300L when it's not even released, let alone tested.

1200/5.6L? Wussies. Now here's a lens worth talking about. I have a second copy if you want to buy one:
