I get off on cars that growl, and roaring bikes. Yeah, I can feel the twitch when those babies crank up their throttles. And yet... imagine the guys who filled whaling boats. What went through their minds as they watched things like these drop atop a roiling frigid ocean hundreds of miles from land as winds whipped waves higher than buildings? How'd they make themselves muscle their way off from the mother ship to spear a beast thirty times the size of this boat. Whoa! Look at these and tell me you can't feel the wind scream loud as any muffled motor...

As you can tell, I couldn't make up my mind. But actually this triptych rocks now that I've printed it. Isn't it astonishing how much the mood changes from toning? Still, none of them would seduce me to hop into one of these things in the North Atlantic to go chasing a mega ton beast with a harpoon. Yipes, were these folks brave.

I get it - they were men with intestinal fortitude, that's for sure. They had a job to do and they did it. And that job is still one of the most dangerous on earth.

I like the triptych.

It's cool to see multiple takes of the same image side by side. I wish more of you would do that. It shows us how the thought process changes and provides a terrific insight into technique. I'd sure like to study other folks decisions re. their ongoing image development.

Thanks for the nice comments.

Ted
