metering mode question

good day, when i was in the properties of a photo i noticed the metering mode said it was in matrix. i can't find anything in my manual about that. does anybody have any idea what that means? can it be changed or should it be changed or where in the manual can i find anything about it? the camera is a s1is. thanks

Matrix is the same as evaluative, I think. I used to have an S1, but can't remember what the choices for metering mode are on it. Should be in the menu, where the little eye in a square is.

It's how the camera is metering (or measuring or evaluating) the light you are shooting. And the different modes are the ways it is doing that. Spot, center or whole frame.
