I just purchased a lumiquest promax. Of course the big disadvantage is that you cant be in portrait mode. I also have the velcro strap on which I can mount the promax bounter on the short side of the flash ( a la "Flip it" or a BetterBounceCard) and take pics in portrait orientation. Do you guys who have this system ever try that and did it work?
Thanx

I don't think it would fit very well, but if you can make it work, go for it!

I bought a stroboframe bracket that lets you orient the flash in either position. I does require an off shoe cord to keep
Ettl function.

A better and, of course, more expensive solution would be to get a camera bracket that rotates the camera. This keeps the flash in the same orientation and allows the camera to be flipped from lanscape to portrait orientation.

Curtis,
It does fit pretty well. I was just wondering if in that orientation, it might create weird shadowing effects.

Light source beside the lens = bad.
Light source above and beside the lens = usually better, depending on the background.
Light source directly above the lens = best.

When I have used a bounce card on the side of the flash when attached to the hotshoe in vertical orientation, I got shadows I didn't like, but it was still better than direct flash in that scenario.
