Hey CDI..... not bad. I pretty much have abandoned ISO 3200. I know others swear by it, but I find the loss of resolution, plus any de-noising, makes it hardly worth the while. Others are able to get more mileage out of it though. I tend to go with a lower ISO and shutter speed and alter my shooting approach. But fortunately I don't have to deal with darkness like this very often. Shot selection looks pretty good. Girls HS basketball is a really mixed bag. The level of play is significantly lower then college so getting real exciting play can be hard. You can't capture what isn't there. So with that said, I would say this is a pretty good start. Cheers.... I know.. I rambled again.

I wish I had a wide prime. I'm putting that 28mm f/1.8 back on the wishlist...might have to settle for it until I can swing the 35L.

I never really thought about a wide prime...have others used one for BBall? How are the results?

Hey, Any ABA teams your way? I found the Nighthawks very exciting to shoot, and not hard to get into.

All the time..... love it under the net. Really gives the impression of height and size. Plus DOF is a mile deep so focus isn't a real huge issue.

What would you recommend/prefer from the Canon line of glass:

- 14mm 2.8L USM
- 24mm 1.4L USM
- 35mm 1.4L USM

I've been itching to get a wide prime for landscape, portrait, etc., but never thought about it for sports. This intrigues me. Would the 14 be too wide?

Yeah I don't particularly love ISO3200 either. I didn't have much choice though. This is actually college but it's Division III so might as well be high school. They rarely ever drove hard to the basket, and most of their shots were 2 and 3 pointers. Almost no layups and no dunks whatsoever. It's almost like shooting TBall and expecting MLB SI type photos.

I'm going to shoot an email to our Division II school's director to have them leave me some credentials at will call to see how that goes. This Wilson school is all girls but Shippensburg University is both so it should be more interesting...with more light.

I was just a few feet from the basket and 24mm was decent. I could have lived with 28mm or gone wider with 20. 35mm would be pushing it but I want that lens anyway so if I had it instead I wouldn't complain. :)

Keep in mind I'm on 1.6x crop cameras.

me too...30Ds. I was thinking the 24 or 20. No rush on this one, but it's kicking around upstairs in the brain.

I would split them and go with the 24. If your on the corners of the baseline 24 is a little loose, and if your right under the hoop your a bit tight. But with a 1.3x factor body it is just right in the latter location. And you know your going to have a 1 series someday... so you might as well give in and buy lenses to match. I have gone as wide as 15 with a 20D, and it worked ok, but the action has to be smack dab under the hoop and the camera mounted on the upright. It's all fun either way. Dang it is cool to be paid to play....Cheers!

Nice shots, particularly for a first attempt at hoops. Given the ceiling in that gym, I bet you could get some neat wide-angle shots in there.

Shocked there were no dunks. ;)
