Technically, Ive been taking pictures for years..............

But, I just purchased a Canon 30D with a Canon 24-105mm F/4 IS USM Zoom Lens. It's my first DLSR and has come strongly recommended from many people.

My questions is that I am looking for a lightweight carbon Fiber tripod, I want something that will support the weight of the 30D with a grip and a EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS Image Stabilizer USM Autofocus Lens, or a EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS (Image Stabilizer) USM Autofocus Lens. I know they are both big lenses, but I'm looking for something that I can trek with (hence the weight issue).

Any suggestions???

I can only recommend what I have used, which is only one. I use Giottos MT9180 with a Giottos MH-1001-652 ballhead. This works really good for me. I actually wanted the MT9170 as it is only 3 sections and the MT9180 is 4, but it is working out really good. I use it with my Rebel XT with Grip and Sigma 100-300 F4 with 1.4 TCon with no problems at all. They also have a carbon fiber line, I think it is MT8170. These are rated I believe to hold 26 pounds. I don't know how well they would work with that much weight, but it works great for what I have, and you could go with more.

I went out with mine the other day for about 3 hours, walking around a lot without any problems with the weight. I am in no way a person that is in shape either

Good luck on your hunt, you will receive a lot of suggestions.

I second the Giottos. I use the 8170 carbon fiber tripod and the Manfrotto 490 ballhead. I love them and I have a 70-200 with 5D with flash. The rating is 26 lbs for both the pod and head. They weren't cheap, but I am done for a long time now. Good enough for me.;)
