So I too was strolling amongst the redwoods over the holiday break. In fact, I saw the other poster 'TALL TREES' and wanted to post one that I took.

This was taken in Redwood Regional Park, Oakland CA just over the hill from where I live.

When I first took it I liked this one out of the bunch but as the day went on and I kept looking I starting thinking it's just a ho hum shot.

Is there any trick to making tree photos a little more interesting or am I just being overly critical?

Well there is only a few things you can do with trees that tall, but i like your shot alot.

I think an isolated tree or two would be awesome, but that may be hard to find in the woods.

Your pic can benefit alot from a contrast bump, and the sky is blown out (meaning the pixels are all white.)

This shot would be an awesome HDR if you had one shot with the sky exposed perfectly, and one with the foreground exposed perfectly, you could merge them.

I have tried my own take on it, added a hue/saturation layer, a contrast layer to try to get some sky back. My tweaks are minor... if the edit offends you,i will remove it promptly... just say the word.

Great shots, keep it up... and read up on HDR for those really high variance shots.

The key thing about redwoods is that they are HUGE! Maybe include something to give it some reference to scale?

hmmm, why not get close to the ground, use a real wide angle lens and shoot from the ground up? Then run the image through photomatix to get the best tones possible given that the trees and the sky will have dramatically different exposures.
Or just do what you did. It looks great.

Thanks for the suggestions! I wanted to add IMAGE EDIT OK but I can't figure out how to do so.

I had just got a sigma 10-20 and was using it for the first time. I found the photos a little flat and I don't know if it was b/c of the light or me just not knowing how to use the lens yet.

Thanks for all the comments they really help!
