Tom,
Believe it or not this flock is in there almost all year round except for the really cold spells. They keep the water open by paddling around 24/7.
I'm heading out there in a couple of weeks and will post the results.
Check list: 1 stick CIL...check
1 Bic lighter....check

One important rule to remember, Ian - If you're going to use dynamite while hunting, do NOT bring a well-trained retriever or any other hunting dog that likes chasing sticks. :)

HEY GUYS -- All of these shots are super.

Yes CDS's is a tad dull,
* Ian's has a tad better light.
** Ian's white gulls are a lovey color (one Quebec pro on TV stepped into towards the flock and set abalze against the sky as background).
*** Scotts hawk is remarkable.. and the TC is even better.
**** Finally I love Jerry's goose .. but prefer to see it rotated 5 deg and cropped as so:

So gentlemen the challenge now is for one of you guys to win the wildlife contest before the year is out. Whay not a collborative effort? Why not post on the critique corner and ask; "Will this win ?" and "If not , why not?" . There we will all push for gold!

I'm in.

But only if CDS can't re-enter shot #3.

I've give my left battery for a shot like that.

You can take my 100-400 L away when you pry it from my cold, dead fingers.

While we're on this track... Anyone had any luck using the mirror lenses for this kind of shooting?

Sounds like fun to me. What should the subject be? Ducks and geese in general? Any wildlife (except for the parties at CDS's place  )
Now I have to pray that there is no more snow and that the birds start coming back up here :)
Oh and just to keep Birders Unlimited off my back, the gulls are snowgeese

I am a new guy and got lucky on that shot but I would love to see what you guys come up with. With my little 300mm I will have to work harder but it could be fun... Count me in. I suggest the photo must be taken during the contest ( no oldies) as done in the other contest.

Go for it. Who will head it up?.

Hmmm... If we get CDS to head it up he can't enter.

And a "no butt shots" rule will rule out IanD.

What other rules can we invent to swing this our way?
:)
