This may seem like a strange question, (or maybe even an option for somebody to design one if they don't exist).
Is there some sort of dongle that will go into the flash mount on a camera to protect it whilst the camera is in a bag?
The reason I ask is through bitter experience:
When I went to New York in September I hald to put my camera bag in as hold luggage rather than hand luggage because of the restrictions at the time.
It was only when I came to mount my flash a few days later that I realised the 'monkeys' at the must have been either throwing my bag about or putting heavy stuff on top of it (even though it was marked fragile!) and they had managed to squash the flash mount but not noticeable so until I came to mount the flash. Luckily I managed to prise it back open (which was very scary in case it broke off) although the flash was a very tight fit after then.
This got me thinking that the flash mount is quite likely to get damaged because it is normally at the top of the bag in the way that most people store their equipment and prone to getting squashed like mine.
If there was a piece of plastic, for example, that was the same as the shoe mount on the bottom of an external flash with an extended piece to make it easy to remove this could save a lot of money on repairs.
Sorry for the long winded message but does anyone know of such a thing and if so where I could get one from? If there isn't such a thing, how many of you think it would be a good idea?
