S3 Monopod lens connector?? DIY???

hi everyone,

im a newbie, but reading tons of pages and reseach lead me to find this nice kit on ebay. tho the kit is nice, i have seen sample pictures of the results from the telephoto lens and they are ok/good quality but just not the best for me. after many hours of reseach, i fount out that by putting together your own kind of telephoto lens with adapters and you can get much better results.

what i really like about this kit, is that he has a custom made/diy 'monopod lens connecter' that is attached to the lens body itself which is great. just wondering if anyone know how this can be done and what/where i can find such part.

(have i ask the seller how he did this? no, but in other forums, a few people ask him, but he never answer how he did it... which i understand)

This is crazee! With a big telephoto-lens there is a lot of heavy glass, the lens ends up being heavier than the camera. Therefore you support the lens to put the lesser strain on the kens mount and not have the center of gravity way out in front of the camera body. Even though the S3 is much lighter than a dSLR I cannot see how an accessory telephotowould ever require its own support on an S3.
What I see in the picture is an ordinary lens adapter with a collar around it to which you can attach a monopod. The correct place to mount this camera is less than 2" away and much closer to the CoG. I have just tried my telephoto+lens adapter+S3 on my monopod, the CoG is to the front of the camera but definately not in the center of the lens adapter.
This is about as useful as a special monopod for left-handed people and I'm left handed and I love monopods! This is totally pointless.

so basically, once i find a way how to make something like this.. i should have it attach closer,about 2" away from the lens and not position so close to the body towards the camera, right?

Sorry you missed my point.
There is a mounting thread on the bottom of the camera as provided by Canon which is in the perfect position for a tripod or a monopod even with a telephoto lens added.
That perfect position is already on the camera which happens to be 2" away from where this contraption puts it, the item being sold attaches the monopod or tripod in the wrong place.
If you do need a telephoto lens you just need an ordinary lens tube and an exceptionally good piece of glass such as the one's made by Canon, Sony or Raynox.
To keep your camera steady you should use a solid tripod which you will use as Canon's camera designers intended. If you cannot use a tripod then a monopod is the next best thing but attached to the camera body in the correct way.

I have to agree - on an S3, it's unnecessary. Might be handy as an alternative to the expensive Canon tripod rings for SLR lenses, but there the lens alone weighs more than an entire S3.

thanks everyone, i kinda figure that every camera has a stand position plate under the came to place a tripod or monopod, i guess this person does have a nice selling point.. hehe...

now time for me to search more in the forum for lens hood, uv filters.

as a newbie... asking questions sure helps save alot of $$$ in the end, better to get proper add-ons, thanks all..
