My Dad has an old Konica film camera for which he wants a simple flash that works on its hot shoe. The camera is a Konica TC Autoreflex. Will the Metz Mecablitz 20 Series C-2 work with it?

I asked this question before, but didn't have the camera's model, so people couldn't help me. now I have the model number, so hopefully someone can help.

I don't know how old the camera is. Its owner manual has a 1978 copyright. It tells me nothing about voltage, but does mention electronic flash, showing that such a flash would be sync'd from Bulb to 1/125". It also says that the camera "accepts all standard shoe mount flashes. ... There is no danger of accidental electrical shock from the camera should you touch the hot shoe. Konica has built a miniature circuit breaker into the hot shoe to prevent accidental electrical shock when using off-camera flash."

Thanks in advance for your help!

Is there electrical contact in the hot shoe? If not there should be a sync port on the camera somewhere. With it being that old any non dedicated auto flash should work. Sunpak 383 is very popular as are used vivitar 283's and 285 HV's.

60D, Canon 18-135 IS, Sigma 10-20 hsm, 24-70 2.8 hsm, 70-200 2.8 hsm, 430EX II, and all the other stuff that goes along with it.

I agree with Headcase. If you want a new unit, the Sunpak 383 is quite powerful and has a bounce/swivel head. It packs more power than most of the shoemount flashes available back in 1978. $80 at B&H. There is a review of this unit in the sticky at the top of this section.

There are also a boatload of used flash units around, at local camera shops or E-Bay. You want an automatic unit with a sensor on the front. The Vivitars that headcase mentioned are very common. You do not want a TTL only flash.

The Autreflex TC is quite old, but it should work fine with any flash that has Auto mode using a photosensor in the flash itself. I have no information on the Metz 20, so could not guess about it, other than stating that if the foot has only two contacts (a big center one, and one which is the hotshoe itself), it should work find if you can find an 'Auto' or 'A' setting.

A camera from 1978 would have NO voltage limitation about synch voltage, as they all used mecahnical switches to close the circuit to fire the flash. Pay attention to using 1/125 or slower shutter speeds with any flash on that camera.

Thanks for all the replies. This forum is a great help! I think I'll go with the Sunpack 383 since the Metz is out of stock, eventho the Metz is $20 cheaper (maybe that's why it's out of stock). Thanks again.
