hi everyone,

i have been leaning towards the 'Raynox DCR-250' super macro lens adapter, but i also notice some macro lens adapter with "+2,+4,+10" etc.

just wondering if anyone has such lens and was there a big difference between the Raynox DCR-250 and the Generic +2, etc ones?

here is an attach picture of the +2, etc ones....

I did some posting on this topic recently, I'll have to find the post and findout how to put a link HERE.

I have +1 +2 & +4 diopter close-up lens. Results are not good. You need the more advanced optics provided by the Canon or Raynox lenses.

Here is the link HERE.

I assume you already purchased a lens adapter..

ever try the reverse lens trick? refer to the top of the small compact section for the link.

you should try that out, if you have any laying around.

The lens of an S3 is permanently attached to the S3. I assume you refer to reversing an SLR lens on an SLR body, how is this possible on a compact?

No, it's possible to use a reversed SLR lens mounted to the lens adapter in place of a "close up lens". It'll function just like a close-up lens, but a more fully optically-corrected one. See the Canon A70 Supermacro thread.

Oh! I had incorrectly assumed this was an SLR only trick. Thanks for the link.
I have some lenses from my (retired) 35mm camera. I have a 45mm f/1.8 prime, a 28-70 f/2.8 zoom and a 70-200 f/3.5 zoom. Do I need to stick to the prime or would the 28-70 zoom give me any benefit. The prime is a Minolta kit lens but the 28-70 is a very good quality lens and I'd like the best quality image loosing a bit more light in the zoom would not be a big problm I think. Any opinion please?

I'd stick to the prime, both because of optical quality and because the zooms will be very unbalanced in that situation.
