Thought I'd share a few shots from today's FA Cup match between Chester and Ipswich. Light was gorgeous/nightmare....about 3.5 stops difference between the shade (1 half of the pitch) and the light (the other half!).

Shot in manual for most of the game as the metering on the camera was struggling to work out whether it was coming or going.....so the confusion was transferred to my brain instead!!

For the statisticians amongst you, Chester made history by being the first league side to be reinstated into the competition, after losing the 2nd round again Bury (Sorry Sir Vic!!). Final Score 0-0.

Thank you for looking - C&C welcome as ever!

Thanks Tony

I found it quite unnerving the light being so good - so much so I was checking the histogram every 5 seconds to make sure!! So much so that I was watching the TV highlights this evening and saw myself chimping in the background!!

If its any consolation, I was down to 1/400 at 1600 by the start of the second half?

I love your description of the light- "a gorgeous nightmare!" Looks like you did well though. Nice shots.

Nice stuff Paul, particularly the last one of Gary Roberts, really atmospheric and an expression to match! Looks like the light was all over the place so you did pretty well!

Although I now live in Preston, I'm from Ipswich myself and decided to stay up here after Uni...Blues have got to do something to pick things up in time for the play-offs this season, looking very ordinary!

I was looking forward to some action until the ref called a pitch inspectin and called the game off.....Oh well, the joys of an 8pm K.O. on Tue to look forward to!

Oh to shoot in small stadiums this time of year which are not completely in the shade! Roll on the spring.

Great shots by the way.

Nice shots, especially the last one... I'm another Ipswich supporter and the pics are a lot better than the game was tbh!

Thanks Si - you're right about the lighting - the other issue was white balance - all over the place with one side of the pitch in shade and the other side in bright late afternoon sunshine!

As for yesterday, they had flashes where you could see that they were a Championship side, but other than that they looked really rather ordinary!!

#2 was probably the talking point of the game, disallowed goal for offside. But other than that, it wasn't the greatest exhibition of football I have ever experienced!!

Were you covering anything yesterday?

Thanks Rich - midway through the first half yesterday I was wishing I was in a large stadium in the shade!!

And at least its not an away trip to Burnley for you!!

Indeed, I was at Blackpool-Aldershot, another one of the 'could be' upsets that never was...awesome weather to be honest, but the light was still well on it's way by the second half. I'll post a few later on if I get a mo!
