Looking for a rugged bag and seem to have a preference on the Kata lineup. I would like to hear opinions from the owners of the these 2 bags as to whether it met their needs, or maybe to small, too big etc...I'm pretty sure from what I have read that they are well made. Going to be carrying a 1D, flash, a few lenses, 70-200 F4, batteries, CF cards, the usual stuff.

Question how well does the rain cover actually work?

Thank you in advance for any comments from owners or members who have used one at one time or another.

Hmmm 70-200L F4 for now, later F2.8. Sigma 20mm, 24-70, that about it. Might buy a`300 F4 but doubt I will want to chug that thing around too.

well, thats what i can fit in mine. including a 15in powerbook. and thats about the extent of it. the 205 might be better for you if you plan to get more equipment.

Too be honest, I'm not getting any younger and I think with that amount of equipment already its heavy already so it might do the trick. Have you ever used the rain cover, I'm curious if it does repell water completely. I see the picture has a 5D but can't tell if theres a grip on it, it looks like it may have a grip on it by the way its protruding out.

Thanks awad.

haha to be honest with you, i lost the rain cover within the first few minutes of owning the bag. but, judging the rain cover that came with my w-92, it looks like the kata rain covers will do the job. yeah,i have a grip on the 5D and the 1N fits too.

there it is with the 1N+70-200 f/4, 24-70, 17-40, 580ex, and the 85mm.

Thanks so much for the info and pictures. It will definately fit the bill and I see they include some sort of tripod holder too. Fantastic looking bag, will be a good day bag. Damn you have some nice equipment, awad.

Appreciate you sticking around and replying.

I bought the R-103 a few months back, and was pleasantly surprised by what I could fit in there. Even though it's all fairly heavy, the bag distributes weight better than any other backpack I've used. Admittedly I've not done much walking with it but it looks good :-)

The photos shows:
1DMKIIN + 24-105L
70-200 F4L
580EX
Adidt Remote
50mm f/1.8
100-400L
17-40L tucked into the 100-400L lens hood in front of the camera.

The 100-400L also fits mounted to the camera in the main compartment (the 24-105 and 17-40 then sit where the 100-400 is shown in the photo).

My main concern before buying was the height of the 1D - all the photos I'd seen showed the top of the camera protruding above the padding. But don't worry - the way the bag is designed means the top of the camera is well protected by the 'eggbox' padding above that part of the bag.

I've not had the need to use the rain cover yet - I'm too soft to go outside in the rain!

The 103 for a little more holds notebook and in future you might want to put computer in bag . I got the 103 for that in future and you can also cram shirts in that area when hiking if you are not using computer .

I haven't seen any 205 users here - but it looks a great bag. If I was buying now I'd probably get one.

The 103 is still FANTASTIC tho!

In the 103, when the computer compartment is empty, does it feel like it is collapsing? Hard to explain what I mean but a area that is ment to be filled must have some give to it.

no, its pretty sturdy, and doesnt give too much. mine is empty most of the time, but its works well as an extra storage area....

I have the 102 (just a 103 without a computer compartment) and it does fill up fast, though it distributes the weight well. And you can also stack stuff in the middle area where the camera sits.
