I received a GorillaPod SLR Zoom (heavy duty) for Christmas.
It needs a ball head to be of any real use. I'm surprised it doesn't come with one.

I just received a SLIK SBH-120 ball head from Adorama. It's light weight, sturdy and holds more weight than I'll put on it. It's black and a perfect visual match for the GorillaPod. It looks as if it was made for it.

Placing my XTi with a Sigma 17-70 on it was easy and it's as solid as steel in any position.

Those GorillaPods any good?
Would it hold say a 1d with a UWA lens?

Check out the largest version. It seems like it would hold at least a large camera and a medium to long telephoto.

The ball head I bought is rated up to 6 pounds, I think. The GorillaPod is rated at about the same.

I think it's an amazing product combined wiith a good ball head.

There was a thread here a few weeks ago which went on for 7 pages. Lots of opinions (mostly from guys who had never tried it! ) but the concensus was that, while it might be useful in certain circumstances, it was very unlikely to be as truly steady (in terms of suppressing vibrations) as a tripod or proper camera clamp. Here's the link : https://photography-on-the.net …2191&highlight=Gorillapod

I would want to see some high quality shots taken using it before getting one. I am more minded to buy of the Manfrotto / Bogen clamps after reading that thread.
