Just a couple from a bunch I took.

These were all 1dmk2n, 24-70L f2.8 no flash, ISO 800, f2.8.

I see now i need a faster lens for indoor sports iso 800 have me a shutter speed between 400-500th of a sec shutter speed which is not fast enough.

This is the first time i really shot at ISO 800 and it is prety dang soft on the 1dmk2n. I think my 20D was a tad less noisy/sharper.

Thats alirght gonna order a 85mm 1.2 on monday to do the rest of the season with.

Really, for this level of play, 1/400 to 1/500 should be plenty of speed, so that shouldn't be an issue. And even then, with a MkIIN you should be able to comfortly be able to shoot at 1/1250 or 1/1600. The differene in noise at those ISOs should be nominal from your old 20D. Honestly, the real issue here seems to be missed focus. On all these the focus point seems to be somewhere behind the intended subject. So I hate to say it... but I don't think a new lens is what you really need. Now if you just want one - go for it. But it will not be the main thing that will improve your shots. A couple of things I would look at is if you are using single point focus with AI-Servo, and if what speed you have your AF set at. You actually want it to be on slow so it doesn't jump to a new subject as fast when trying to track your subjects.

Other then that.... color balance and all that look to be pretty much as on as you'll get in an environment like this. Keep at it... you have the right stuff to do the job, and you have a great subject. It will come. These aren't the easiest conditions to shoot in, but it will all come together for ya. Cheers.

You have some great light in that gym. To get 1/640 at 2.8 with ISO 800 on that last one is a dream compared to most of the gyms I shoot in. That said, I would shoot tighter and get lower to shot the little ones. Good post.

That's what I was going to say. That's Disneyland compared to ISO3200, f/2, 1/400th.

Just jack up to ISO1600 and you'll have tons of shutter speed. Or stick with what you're doing @ ISO800 and get closer. If anything you need longer reach. The 85L probably wouldn't focus fast enough for you. A 70-200 f/2.8 might do the trick if you can't shoot from the line.

That's what I see too. The shutter speeds here are outstanding for f/2.8 in this environment. The white walls and floor are definitely helping the lighting situation. You even had 1/640 shutter on the last one. A faster lens is only going to make it harder to get your primary subject in focus. In your situation, I might have gone to ISO 1600 and shot at f/4 - f/5.6 which would have still given you 1/250+ shutter on most of these.
