Hello, I am new to the board and wanted to get some suggestions on a memory card. I got some in mind but dont know what to get. I am new to the digital camera scene, I've just purchased my first camera last week which was a Canon a640. It comes with a 32 MB card, and I know that would be to small for that camera. I was looking at this one SanDisk SDSDH-1024-901 1 GB Ultra II Secure Digital Memory Card . Will that one be good for my camera? Is it compatible with the camera I have? If not what will be the best memory card for my camera? I would like a nice one for my camera. Thanks

It's a good card. I have several SanDisk Ultra II SDs for my A620 and several more Ultra II CF cards for my 20D. A 1 GB card will give you about 8-1/2 min. video at 640x480x30fps or around 250 stills at best resolution. Actually, SanDisk's regular "blue" SD cards will keep up with video fine, too, so you could save a bit by getting one of them instead, or spend the same money and get 2 of them.

Looks like you and I are in the same boat. I just got my A640. I've got a Sandisk UltraII 1GB Plus. I thought the plus was just a marketing thing, but turns out that it "converts" and has a little USB tail. that plugs into the USB port.

There are lots of other cards that people are having very good luck with. I use the ATP 60X card which is also waterproof and was half the price of the sandisk. Transend cards are also highly recommended by canon users in other forums.

Wow. I can't believe it. I was getting ready to purchase a Sandisk ultra 1gb online for 44.99, but first I wanted to go to fry's and check out what kinda deals they had. They had the Sandisk Ultra 2gb for the same price so I jumped onto that one.

And just think, it was only a few years ago that I prchased a 32 MB CF card, and paid fifty bucks for it! I also remember paying $69.95 for a reader to read my 4 MB Kodak CF card. Some things do come down.
