Howdy guys. First time posting in this section. I went out early this morning (before the sun was visible but it was rising) to try and shoot the sunrise, but I couldn't find a good spot. So instead I shot this. C&C greatly appreciated. I am slightly color blind so I am posting a couple edits so you guys can tell me what works or what you like.

Original image, straight from camera (just resized):

Edit #1 (sill leaves the image saturated with the blueish night-light but helps bring out some other colors - I think):

Edit #2 (This is an attempt to get rid of most the blueish tint and add a little 'pop' to the other colors - still somewhat flat though):

Byte size: ZERO | Content warning: NOT AN IMAGE

And a desaturated edit for B&W. I think the overall lack of contrast throughout the entire image makes this image a no-go for B&W though.

I'd really appreciate any other ideas or techniques to make this image better. Especially through post-processing. I think the fact that I shot this very early morning made or broke this shot depending on what you like. I am not sure which one I like best (between 1 or 2) yet.

Thanks!

Kirk

I think that the black and white suits this photo the most.

The original blues are really cool as well, but it's easier to notice detail in the monochrome (for me anyways.)

I'd bump the contrast in the B+W, and it'll look great!

Nice composition!

The B&W is growing on me. I will work with it.

Anyone else. More C&C would be appreciated. I said I would like help with post-processing but some pointers as to how to actually shoot this better would be appreciated too. I have good access to this site and would like to keep going back till I have the "perfect" shot. I will go back many more times if necessary.

I attempted another B&W conversion using a simple technique I found on the web. First BW I was only desaturating the photo. THis one involves creating two hue/saturation adjustment layers and desaturating on one while adjusting hue on the other. I then upped the contrast. I think the result is much better. The image doesn't look nearly as flat and there is enough contrast to show the old graffiti on the wall.

Also, I took B&W photography in high school (that was 7 years ago) and I remember one thing we got graded for in that class. The image had to have both black and white.. not just grays. This achieves that much better.

I think the B&W works best here. It simplifies the shot and allows the strong lines and shapes to shine. Nicely done.

Thanks guys. I agree B&W works very well here. I am going to go back but I think I am going to try and shoot from inside the tunnel out. Should be a challenge. Will have to wait for the water to lower just a tad.

Thanks,

Kirk
