Were these wedding photos taken in a large place such as a church? If so, then your photos would have greatly improved by using a more powerful external flash. The built-in flash has a limited range and will result in underexposure in large places.
Also, installing the newest firmware for the G1 has been known to improve internal flash exposure. Also, increasing the flash compensation might help. Or perhaps you could raise the ISO to 100 instead of 50. I guess I am assuming you are using the G1?

I have tried lighting them up many different ways including using Photo Shop and making a duplicated inverted gray scale image as suggested on DPreview. The problem is 1) that it always gives a pale look to the skin. 2) It is so slow, is there a way to do them all at once?
