OK, I took everyone's suggestions, comments and tried working them at the show last night.

As comfortable as it was from the right side I moved around a bit.

I ALSO took the 70-200 2.8 to test it out as well and I must say that I was VERY impressed. I also found that the 50 performed well but I needed to be a little creative to get the gutiar head into the shot as well esp. if I'm standing right up on the stage.

There were 3 other people taking photos and ALL HAD FLASHES. I must say it totally sucked. Every 3 or 4 seconds I was getting blasted in the eyes with their flash.

Here are some of the photos that I shot last night, as always comments and suggestions would be great!

The band is ReIgnition and they were playing at the Bottom of the Hill, SF CA

I liked #5 a lot but it isn't as sharp as I would have liked. I think it could be used for something. #6 Dave's face is soft but I was able to get the entire gutitar in the shot....Live and learn.

Thanks!

Here are a few of the bass player and one of the guitar players. Pretty much the rest of the band sat back and it was really dark.

im with bmoguy, i think theyre a lil soft maybe because of re-sizeing? but the idea is deffinatly there whats infront of the first shot of the second series? its very distracting.
And why all B/W?

#3 and 4 really good.

I think they may be soft in places because of the aperture or speed [and the person is moving].

Note how parts of the guitar will be sharp but the rest not.

I got to put in the plug in to see the speed and aperture.

It was the singer walking into the frame, that's why I didn't originally post those photos.

i shot on friday night and the color sucked. It's basically a few spots and a bunch of red Christmas lights on the stage.

All the photos that I took with color were really red/pink.

I thought that ight be the reason for B/W, saying that the color doesnt look so bad in he last image of the last set IMHO.

Excellent stuff - not a bad shot there at all.

I love both the B&W and the colour shots - the colour is appropriate given the environment.

Keep it up!

Thanks!

This forum board has been a massive help. Between buying gear (some that I didn't need :)) to getting tips on shooting. Thanks again to everyone that took the time to comment.

This is from one of the opening bands. and since I was in the creative mood, 2 others that have been PP.

The opening band was a little more 'female friendly'

Ah - here they are! They are FANTASTIC and you are doing EVERYTHING right by using your prime lense and moving about!

I especially like the one (which isn't numbered! ) from the opening band, where you can see the crowd interaction.

Those shots (with crowd interaction) are the MONEY shots and will sell much better than even the BEST shots of artists on their own.

Not bad at all! Pretty soon you'll be able to look at the stage, lights and all and know how and where to shoot from and have more time to try different techniques.
