I purchased a 5d and a 400mm 5.6L lense in November. Sent all the proper paperwork for the rebate on Dec 6th. It was received and signed for on Dec 11th. On the web site where you can check on the status, they still do not show it received and this concerns me. Should I be concerned or is this normal? I cannot find any phone # on this site to check. If you have any experience with the rebate system, would appreciate if you would let me know what you think about my situation.Thanks.

Speaking from experience with rebates from things like PDA's, TV's and modems, rebates tend to take a couple of months or so. I never put a date on it since paperwork alwasy say 6-8 weeks. I've gotten every rebate I have ever sent in for a product so that shows that companies do send checks. As far as Canon rebates, I'm in the same boat. I sent my stuff end of November and just checked my rebate status online but my name and address does not show up. I'll give another week and see if my info shows up online. I made copies of everything that I sent so if it doesn't show up, I'll resend it.

I mailed my rebate in on October 23 and didn't get the check until December 27th. There was no movement on that web site showing status changes until maybe two weeks before issuing check.

You might want to do a search for rebates. There is a lot of discussion every time Canon offers rebates. Basically their rebate program is spotty at best and possible fraudulent at worst. The reality is somewhere in between. Some folks have no problems, some lots. Me personally, of the 4 rebates I qualified for last May, One came no problem, two had to be fought for one quite vigorously, and the fourth I am still waiting for after 7 months. I keep telling myself I will get off of my lazy a$$ and have a chat with the BBB and file a grievance, but something always comes up.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

I did the web pre qualify, then mailed all the forms the next day, it took over a month for them to post it on the website. Once the clearing house received my forms they rejected them for invalid UPC labels, after many e-mails (14) with Canon customer service it now states that one of the checks has been mailed. We'll see how long that takes.

I just got my rebate that I sent in on May 30th, last year. How's that for speedy service?

I've sent in Canon rebates twice, once was with my 20D and a lens, and the second time was for one of my other lenses (forget which one). The first rebate - no problem. On the second they said that I did not send my registration card. They just lost it. I love rebates and know very well to read the fine print and go over the rules again and again to make sure I am meeting all the requirements. I usually make copies of everything I send in (rebate forms filled out, receipts) but did not copy the reg card. I've also since started taking a snapshot with a point and shoot of all the materials I am stuffing into the envelope.

Canon did send me a letter giving me X amount of days to re-submit my claim with the registration card, of course I didn't have it... Oh well.

I sent copies of the reciepts and warranty cards and now they are trying to say that I submitted an invalid UPC code. Duh, I cut the code off of the 430EX flash box just as I did for the lens and camera. The rebate is suppose to be for 320.00 but I looked online and I am finally in the system, but the rebate is for 300.00. It's only 20.00 but it is the principle of the matter that I purchased an item and I am due a rebate. The receipt has my name on it and I produced a warranty card so that should be enough.
