And now for something completely different :D

Don't worry, I'll stop one day.

1st round of the New Zealand Champs.

1/50th seems to be a bit long for these shots. You really need to have something sharp for the eyes to lock onto. I really like the motion on the second shot, but would suggest bumping-up the shutter speed a stop or two. Close, but for me... just no cigar. Keep it up though.

I was seeing how 1/50th would work (or not) in the stutters and over jumps.
I was surprised how well it did.

1/160th worked well and even 1/250th but I'm just waiting for one of my 1/50th shots to really work :D

These were at 1/250th and the bottom 2 were using an off-centre focus point and came out better than I'd hoped.

There is a lot of room between 1/160th and 1/50th. Don't be afraid to adjust the shutters in relation to the subject. I think something like 1/100th would work really great... still the motion from the slow shutter, yet enough speed to get something in the subject sharp.

The rest of the photos are great... I really like the composition of number 2.

I would normally use around 1/125th but spoke wheels blur more easily than mags so was thinking 1/160th for the higher keeper rate.

1/50th is just for fun, next time I'll do less of them.

Also less jump pics and more story type shots like #2

They were coming around a long sweeper at about 60-70 kph and using a slight berm at the base of the tyre wall (was impressed how well the off-centre focus point/70-200 f4 L and 10D handled it actually).
I had to keep crouched or I'd cop an elbow :D
Not often I get to shoot one of the world's top MXers.

Well apart from some shots at a distance of him on a trials bike last year it's the only time :D

I was going to say the same thing. nice shots but it seems that the shutter is to slow.

good to see that the 10D still doing well :)

 You can't take a 1/50th pan shot at anything other than 1/50th.

Good shots considering all the factors of movement these bikes are travelling. Up and down as well as forward. Tough tough pans. The bikes taking big air are great! We have a few pans of drag racing in our galleries. As well some are as low as 1/25th.
