I had a week in the Isle of Man recently. The Island is situated between England and Ireland in the Irish sea. We were lucky with the weather which is often very inclement. Even in the height of the summer season there were very few 'tourists' about.

The Island is well worth a visit as a photographer..........

The full gallery is at http://www.pbase.com/gtmedia/isle_of_man (external link) there are a couple of shots from the Liverpool docks from where we caught the ferry. The animal shots were from the only wildlife park on the Island.

Beautiful spot. Very well taken. With this subject matter and the sunny, high contrast light I think this would be a difficult shot to get right.

I like how the sun has illuminated the trees in the background, but I'm sure this same shot would work well on a cloudy day with more even lighting, too. I really like the red wheel as it adds a nice touch of contrasting color. We have an old mill in my area, but the wheel is dark brown and not as photogenic. Is the wheel stationary? It doesn't appear to have any water flowing under it.

Thanks to all for the comments.

The trouble with holidays and limted time is that you often have to make the best of what is there at the time, it makes it a challenge.

JT - The wheel was stationary. The building and wheel are not in use anymore, but water was directed by means of a sleuce gate on the other side. There are many examples of industrial history on the Isle of Man. Probably the most well known is the Laxey Wheel - which can be seen in my gallery as the link posted above.

Noted: "visit Isle of Man". Wow. I like how the paddle wheel reflects in the water.

It's always nice to see a touch of red among the lush green foliage, very nice shot, I like it
