Not the best weekend to go out but Sunday I pushed myself despite the drizzle, showers and grey skies. I visited a small fall near Malham, Janets Foss, which despite being close to the road I had never seen. Lots of spray heading to the camera though so a bit tricky....and why is it people insist on having a damn picnic in the rain in your shot? Luckily I got a few minutes alone :)

A slight discolouration from the 105mm cheapo CPL I am using to test out the Lee holder. Lee holder is great...shame about the CPL.

When the drizzle gets too heavy point the camera down and look for details...

i love them all except the last one. the last one i feel it was a bit over board with the "water effect" or whatever photographers call it. the water just looks too fake for me.

Cheers, I liked the contrast of the redish branch against the green mosses, the white water just added further depth. It was a bit too dark to get a fast shot of the water, without upping the ISO too much anyway.

Gotta go with the second one. In the larger image, I like how the detail in the fallen tree comes out in the foreground. Lots of interesting bits of color in there. I feel as if I can almost reach down and touch it!

However, for some reason the fallen tree doesn't work for my eyes in the first one. When I first saw it, I couldn't figure out if it was part of the river bank or a tree extending over the water. I see it better now after viewing the second shot, but for some reason it still kind of distracts me a little. Maybe I'm just a little weird.

I like #2 best. The angle of the tree trunk leads the eye into the frame nicely.

I really like #1 too, but the foreground tree trunk is quite imposing.

The tree is there as the area around the fall is a little barren and the shot I wanted to take right in front was impossible due to the spray coming stright down with the breeze. Cheer Jim.

Wish I'd had my tripod in Merano, the water was a great colour and the ice on the rocks...oh well. Cheers D.

Seems to be people are not keen on my choice of foreground :( I can feel another visit coming on :)

Here is one taken level with the fall, the rocks are quite barren and colourless, hence using the tree trunk as a feature.

I like them all, but #2 does it for me. THe only thing on number too that is a little distracting is the on the fallen tree there is a little bit of mist hovering over it. Other than that, nice composition and overall shot.

The water was swirling around where the tree dipped into the water. :) Cheers

Nice shots Neil, number 2 is my choice, but can't help thinking the bit of swirling water on the log kinda distracts the eye.

All very nice shots Neil but that last one just blows them all away. Fantastic shot, I love the green and how close you got to the water. feels like it's flowing off the screen, a really winner.
