I know this is kind of an odd question, but, how do the two cameras stack up against each other?

I know they're both roughly 6MP, and I know the 300D accepts EF-S lenses and the D60 does not, but what are the major differences between them?

Given the same lens, camera settings, etc, which one will produce a better image?

I'm thinking of selling my D30, and my D60, and buying a 300D as a backup to my XT.

Thanks!

Depends.. Personally I would go with the 300D, but there are some differences..

The 300D will get you ISO 1600 + 3200 (with the firmware hack), and better focusing.. The D60 will get you better metering and a slightly faster frame rate with a bigger buffer. You will also want to check to see if the D60 is E-TTL or E-TTL II compatible.. I'm not sure that it is.

Tough call here, but I'd probably go 300D.
I have a D60 and it's a nice old camera for what I use it for, but the timings are so slow,.
If speed is of NO concern, than the D60 does have more features.

Keep in mind though that in addition to other "age related" issues, the D60 also can not fit/mount any of the EF-S lenses, where-as the 300D can.
This may be a significant issue to many.

Thanks! Its the EF-S issue isn't a huge one right now, as my only EF-S camera is an XT.

My current bodies are as follows:

D30, D60, Rebel XT.

Tough Choice.

I definitly want to sell the D30, i'm just trying to decide whether or not to sell the D60 and buy a DReb....

IIRC: The D60 is E-TTL compatible.

If you already own the D60, I wouldn't bother to upgrade to the 300D. You already own the XT which itself has more features then the 300D.

If EF-S isn't a concern the 10D would actually be the better camera, but again you already own the D60 if it does the job...

If I did anything I'd sell all 3 and go find a 20D :) BHp has a few for $800 used.

My biggest Rebel-D gripe was the metering/drive mode lack of choices. If that doesn't bother you the 300D is a great camera.

Pardon my ignorance, what does the 20D do that the Rebel XT doesn't?

For image quality at ISO 100 the D60 tends to provide slightly better image quality.

The D60 was the last of the Canon DSLR sensors that was produced at the older location and provides slightly better IQ then the 300D or 10D did. I have both D60 and 10D and my dad has 300D so have good comparison. I also have several reports that report similarly. That said the other features tend to make a 300D and 10D better overall (such as better AF and less noise at higher ISO). In either case the overall image quality advantage tends to go away with 20D/350D and later cameras.

I personally think the 300D is a worthwhile upgrade from the D60 ... with that said, if it were me and I could afford it, I would look at a Rebel XT.

As long as your hands can deal with the small size of the XT, the lack of frustration when dealing with the painfully slow 300D card write/review times is well worth the extra $100.

My 300D was a gift from my wife .... so to give it an "upgrade" would cause SOC syndrome (stands for Sleep On Couch).

My $0.02

Understood, but I still stick by my post. Especially if you're used to the XT ... the 300D's frustratingly slow card write/read times will definitely make you want to chuck it against a wall unless 1 frame every 2 seconds or so is okay to you.

Hi

Think the biggest down side of a 300D compared to a D60 for me would be the lack of AI Servo mode (the 300D only has it in Sports Mode I think). More solid build quality of the D60 woud be more appealing as well.

Sounds like a bargain with the lenses.

All the best
