CF Cards - Full or Not?

In High School I used a 4"X5" Speed Graphic. Sheet film holders had a slide which was removed before making an image. One side of the slide tab was black/ the other white. Unexposed sheets were identified by the white side being "out". After exposure, the slide was reinserted with the black side "out." Remembering this, I now put a small letter "C" on one end of theCF cards, and a small Letter "C" on one end of the plastic CF case. After one is filled, it is returned to the plastic holder, with the "C" on the opposite end of the case, which indicates it is full. After offloading the images, and clearing the CF card, it is returned to the case, with both C's at the same end.
The same thing works with batteries and the contact protector case.

when i bought my second Ultra II 2gb the other day i thought about this too as i now have two cards that are the same

so i printed up some little red and green flags with "empty" on the green side and "full, download before reusing" on the red side, these are stuck to the back of the CF card case and hinged with tape then when you put a full card back in you flip it so the red side faces out and you know your card is full
they are stuck to the back of the CF card case (where the holder has tabs that "hold" your card)
my little tags also have my name and phone # on them (it was cloned out of these shots)

for my cards which are the same, I wrote I and II on the back of them. I just use them in order then.

Echo and savage you both have some really good ideas now if only I had more cards so I could do something like that.

Good ideas. For me, empties go in a holder and the full ones get thrown in a separate pouch.

Also, I tend to work my way up with cards, starting with the smaller ones, since I'm normally taking pictures before the main event, and save the large cards for when I'll be shooting bursts and for longer periods of time.

and i normally do the opposite, start with my 2x 2gb, then my 1gb, then my 256mb, although if i use the 256mb i also switch to jpg

i also have a 8mb card, it just fits the 350d firmware upgrade on it (1.0.3 i think)

I carry my media cards in these cases....Blank, formatted cards are stored face up, full cards are face down. Owner contact info and card number is also found on each card.

Fresh cards in the left pocket, used cards in the right pocket, just like my film days. When I use a card wallet, fresh: face up, used: face down.

Fresh cards I left in the gearbag and in the holders and full cards I put in a
special pocket in the jacket I wear. Never had a problem untill now.

Cards are in wallets, and like others using 'em face-up's empty and face-down's full.

Tamrac has a nice little memory card case that has red flags that you can use for the purpose. If the flag is inside the pouch, the card is fresh. Pull the flag outside, and it shows the card being used already.

I keep four memory cards in my case, and the space in the middle is perfect for two extra batteries for my 20D.
