Okay, so from Janets Foss there is a short walk upstream to Goredale Scar. I visited before but was unimpressed by the bare rocks and clear water. Little sun reaches inside the scar itself so no colourful mosses.

On approach, through the camp site, the sun refused to shine but I snapped anyway as the river winds its way through temptingly (I know that bit of sky is horrible, but necessary).

Now heres the catch, to see the main fall you have to climb that big rock in the middle of the shot. It is only a few meters tall and in summ not a problem, but in the rain with alot more water coming down limestone is a bugger! But I managed to get up, getting down was fun. Bearing in mind you need stout, grippy walking shoes not wellies and I was upto my knees in water for this shot! (you arrive on the right hand side of the fall.... :|)

But the impressive views are worth it:

The last two were the most difficult to take due to the immense amount of spray, this is the most impressive fall I have seen in Yorkshire (akin to something in Norway) and alot of water was coming down. It was also getting dark so a faster exposure (which I would have liked) was out of the question and I will return to get one!

From above the falls their is an impressive view up the steep gorge, but it was dark so no shots, next time maybe. I managed to climb down the rock face, but had to divert a little into gon**d deep water, a little chilly but worth it??

All comments welcome.

Very nice series, the sky in #1 doesn't bother me at all as it doesn't distract you at all from the scene.

I think #3 is my favourite, with #2 a little too busy for me.

Although # 1 looks very impressive , i would most definitely vote for the 3rd one Neil.
Lots to see in the water and i love the framing of it.

Cheers Dimitri, the top fall fall was most impressive but the entrance to the scar itself is aslo something. I thought you would be going with the first, dramatic hills, clear stream rolling over glistening rocks....

Trust me on this, where I was standing for shot three I couldn't feel much at all!

Really like the 1st one posted. It mentions that you used a ND filter - what filter system do you use? When using my 17-40mm on my 5D I get the sides of my cokin filter holder appearing.

All are very nice and detail shots Neil but #4 has my vote. I really like that profile view of the falls and the rock in th BG, nicely done.
