I'm hearing a lot of decent things about this thing.

This artist here uses it with some amazing effects:

Keep in mind this thing has some functionality of the Intuos. It also cost 1/4 the price of the graphire4. If I get serious about this stuff, I will probably upgrade to a genuine Wacom in the future ;)

I have used one ...did not like it...afterwards I did a bit of research and found several reviews that backed up my experience...as you draw, tehre is a lag time between what you do with the pen and what appears on the screen...I suppose some of this might be software related or the computer it was being used on, but as I researched it, a lot of people had this experience...I will look up the reviews tomorrow and post a couple links if you want...The Wacom is by far a superior product, and the pen is very natural feeling in the hand as it is not heavy ended...For the price, it is probably not a bad deal, just not as great a one as a Wacom, JMHO.

Theres no doubt the Wacom tablet is the way to go for anyone remotely serious as far as tablets go. I just can't get myself to make that kind of investment yet. I may upgrade in the future, and "pass" this one to my lovely wife.

Thanks Zacker and Rod for the compliments.

Hi Rod, I love how you bring subdued colors into your painting when I compare it with the original photos. Pl keep posting with your work.

Hi Brad, you seem to be creating effortless painting using the techniques you taught us in the dvds. If it is not inconvenient, pl post us the original photo along with the painting. This will give us some ideas how to improve our techniques using your tutorials.

Very happy to see two active artists rod and brad contributing to this forum.

Trust all of you here in US enjoyed fire works on July 4 th. It was a beatiful weather to enjoy with the kids.

I am trying out some new 'things' with my painting and was wondering if a few people could weigh in on whether either of these works or not...a simple yea or nea will do...longer comments certainly welcome but not necessary...Thanks...

That is looking good. Good job. My problem is that I'm still a little puzzled about the output that I plan to use. Should I crop first and then plan like a 16x20? Everything else is getting easier. I'm just a little concerned about getting the right size before I do my work. I plan to send one off to be put on canvas.

Nope...Funny thing is, I have Lucis and never even thought to try it, LOL!...I 'will' have to try that!!...I smudged painted, then used an oil brush over much of it, and then went in like brad suggests on his DVD's and tweaked the contrast...I then went on to create yet another layer, which I desaturated again, and then tweaked a bit of the color, then did the contrast thing once again...I want to print these on metallic paper...and really want them to pop...I don't think this would look good on a portraits, but i have been doing some vintage autos, and am trying to come up with something to amke them more printable on photo paper, not canvas like I have been.

For what it's worth...before I bought my WACOM, I used a cheaper tablet I found on ebay through this company - http://www.superpen.com/ (external link).

It's not a WACOM but it really produced some excellent work. Some I like more than my WACOM. Remember, it's got a cheaper feel to it but it does work very nicely.

Hi Miglo

Your a lucky man :) would you mind posting a 100% crop of the face as I carnt see to good , apart from the saturation I carnt tell the difference from the photo , I like to see these virtual paintings look like paintings I think people in general tend to stay too close to the photograph and it looses its appeal for me when they do , John Singer Sargent could not paint the level of detail shown here and he was one of greatest portrait painters of all time , thats not to say its not good work , art is entirely subjective , this is why I rarely comment much on someones artwork because there is really no right and wrong just opinions and it only has to please the artist .

Rod

Rob, I'll post it when I get home. My wife still thinks its too photography, so I have more work to do I think. The majority of the face was done with a mouse, since I did not have a tablet at the time. I'll probably end up redoing the whole thing down the line. Its definitely fun to do though :D
