When I took the lens out of the box I checked the glass was scratch free etc, (while trying not to look like a child at christmas:D in front of my work mates) I breathed some breath on the lens and a circular patch/mark appeared on the centre of the lens glass, about 1 inch in diameter.
It looks like a mobile phone display would look like when you remove the anti scratch plastic film, like very light water marks? Or where a suction tool has held the glass in place during production?

It wont wipe off by just using a lens cloth and doesn't show when dry or on a picture I took with it.

Do I worry or not?

The picture quality is spot on, I may even sleep with it tonight lol:lol:

I don't have a lens pen.
A bit of my mineral breath and a lens cloth didn't shift it.

I don't know if I should send it back (which is hassle) or accept it. Like I said, it doesn't seem to show on a picture but I haven't used it in a humid enviroment which may make the mark appear.

I need to know if anyone else has seen this and is it normal, my other glass has never been marked in this way.

Help?

I'd try cleaning it with a lens cloth & solution first, and maybe pick up a lens pen and see if that helps. If not just exchange it for the peace of mind.

When spending that kind of money, don't take the chance...

Exchange it and start over!

Don't worry yourself too much; it's not too late to return it

Are you able to contact the supplier?
It would be good to at least have a verbal agreement before doing anything.

Yeah, I'll call them today and mention it.

I was really wondering if anyone else has seen this before, but with so many views on this thread and only a few replies I guess that means no one else has this problem.

I had seen a rectangular patch in the middle of my Sigma 18-50 f2.8 ex when I look at it from a certain angle. Have you any pics of it?

The supplier and Canon have asked for a picture too. I'll take one tonight and post it here.

Do you have a Glasses rag? It is a micro fibre cloth made to not scrath eyewear. I use them also on my lenses. The only cleaner I use is my huff huff aka breath and go huff :)

Hi,

I tried more breath and a pentax microfibre cloth, it cleaned the lens nicely but the ring remains. It really does look like it will simply wipe off....but it won't!

I just called the shop to confirm they got pics from email and asked about a swap over and they said they won't be able to reply until Monday at the earliest.

Too right! I thought quality control on this type of lens would have been better. At least while I'm waiting for the new one I can practice with this, it doesn't seem to interfere with picture quality.
