This probably has already been mentioned but my gripe so far (still waiting to hear from the rebate)...

I don't have a physical mailbox, just a PO BOX, but it specifically says "no po boxes allowed" and the funny thing is, in order to get the rebate you have to mail it to their PO Box...lame!

Don't hate me, but I got my rebate yesterday. Mailed 1/24/07 received 2/20/07. Had one bad UPC. Made a phone call, told to send in copy. Decided to call back a couple days later to make SURE I had everything right this time(again). Second call got a great lady! She had me read the UPC # to her and she fixed it. Must have been a very small problem. She said it would take a couple of weeks to be mailed. Within a couple days the rebate web site showed it processed and mailed. THANK YOU!! Hope others are getting better results now.

Just received an email from Brad at Canon, my checks are cut and I should receive them with 10 bus. days. Fantasic.
If your getting nowhere with the rebate company, ask them to bump it up to the Canon rep. Brad. He will help.

Thanks all,
Adam

Well, I'll bet I just guaranteed that my final rebate request will be the very last one processed. I crossed all of the T's and dotted all of the I's and placed everything in an envelope with this cover letter:

To the Young America representative who processes this rebate request,

I’m sure you personally are a very conscientious employee who will see to it that this request is processed quickly and accurately. However, in the past, representatives of your company seem to have had difficulty locating the required documentation that I painstakingly included in the envelope. For this reason:

1. I have pre-qualified this rebate request online.
2. I have sent this request via registered mail as verification that it arrived in your possession safely.
3. I have retained copies of all documentation including the original bar code cut from the box. For some reason these bar codes have a tendency to get “lost” before the rebate is approved so I decided to avoid this unexplainable occurrence by taping the barcode to the copy of the receipt.
4. If for any reason this rebate request is denied, I have made preparations to contact all of the following:

a. Canon USA:
Canon Customer Care – Rebates
PO Box 2338

Ph: 800-828-4040
Ph: 757-413-2885 x 2385

FAX: 317-846-7306

If it becomes necessary for me to pursue the above steps, I am also prepared to take whatever additional steps are necessary to see to it that this type of poor business practice is stopped. Please forward this letter to your superior. I would like a response. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Jeff Solenberg

If anyone else has rebates to send in, I think you should copy this and send it with yours. Lets start a movement.

 I know!!! That is exactly what I'm afraid of. However, I'm not playing games with them now. One way or another I'm getting every dime they're going to try to screw me out of.

Canon Warranties

Hi,

Having bought a Canon 400D in the UK, I have been sent out to Australia for a year. I have a problem with my 400D that needs it to get re-focused, but Canon Australia will not repair the camera under warranty

Does anyone know if you can get an exteded warranty from Canon to cover international repairs, for I think it is a bit unfair that I have to pay for what has been an issue with a two month old camera. Is there any alternatives that you can recommend?

Thanks in advance,

Alasdair

My rebate status still says "waiting on mail submission" yet it arrived there weeks ago. Should I contact them? If so how?

I called Canon an hour ago to complain about the way Young America has been handling these rebates, mine specifically, and spoke to a very helpful rep named Norris. He took all of my information and I just received a call from another rep named Katie who assured me she will take care of it right away. I also encouraged her to have a Canon representitive stop by this forum, and this thread in particular and take note of what is being said and comment if possible. She said that is a great idea and asked me to send a link, which I did. I hope we hear from them soon. I was also assured that Canon is very well aware of the problems being caused by YA, and was told "Canon is taking this very seriously and the complaints are not falling on deaf ears". I am very optimsitic about how Canon will handle this in the future! They are a good company being given a bad reputation by a bad company.

I'm very happy with Canon's customer service. Here is the email I received in just over an hour from the initial call:

Dear Jeff Solenberg,

Thank you for emailing me your information. I have reviewed it, and everything is there that I need to have your full rebate processed. I will have the rebate house process it and get it out to you.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.

Thank you,
Katie

The moral of the story, call Canon, not Young America if you want action.

They told me it could take up to 4 weeks to be shown in the system, I will check back in March. I took pictures of my UPC codes.

I sent about 10 links of various threads to Brad. He told me my rebate check was shipped...but he didn't mention the links.

Good luck. I hope you are in the minority that they don't screw with.

Even if we don't hear from them right away, I think we should continue to encourage Canon people to come here. It would be nice to know that they are "in the loop".

I just talked to Shane. He took the details, and is gonna send them to someone higher up in the rebate center. Said I'll get some info in the next couple of days. I wish the rebate center people were as nice.
