10 dollars for the photo... They also asked for another one (another 10 bucks) but I can't find it in the magazine... Either they decided not to include in this issue or they will include it in the next one...

well done - but ten dollars? That's a criminally low fee!

10 dollars for the photo...

There's an ad running on tV now where this father buys his kids expensive electronics for Xmas & gets back a bottle of aftershave. Key dialog is, "Dad got hosed!"!
You did too. ;)

I know that 10 dollars is barely nothing, but I am just starting and I am not looking for money now, I just want people to see my work... Besides, this magazine only pays 10 dollars for any photo, except the two page spread in the middle of the magazine (20 dollars) and the cover (50 dollars)...

Try to not do too much of that. If you use that magazine as a reference to someone else, the day will come that they will say, "You can work for us for $10 too." ;)

I now only do freebies to charity organisations, ie The Spitfire Society.
All other requests I ask for around $75 absolute minimum, and thats for small publications....

What does just starting out have to do with anything? Answer: Nothing. They obviously liked your photo and trust me, when an advertiser comes to them a bit short of money at the end of the month, they don't just run the ad out of kindness. It's a business.

People seeing your work is great, but photo credit and $10 magazine submissions don't put bread on the table or update equipment.

Says the magazine. Nothing says you are forced into accepting those rates. Negotiations are key in this business. PS. You've now set the bar with this magazine. Going back to get more money on future shots will likely be a futile effort since you've already worked for them for (criminally) low rates. $50 for a cover? Find someone else to shoot for.
