metalman1010 reminded me that hockey officials have a very difficult job and often go unrecognized. Most hockey photos are of players in action. Here is my salute to all of the folks brave enough to wear the zebra suit.

Yes, he's quite a character! He's a solid supporter of youth hockey.

Yes - an outdoor rink. It puts our kids at a disadvantage (shorter season, less practice) but photographers love it!

yup, that's good, and a nice sentiment. I'm always impressed at what good skaters most refs are. One local ref plays on a team in my league and skates circles around me.

good exposure with high-contrast lighting.

It's good to see somebody giving the refs a little credit where credit is due. It's also good to see some kids playing outdoors still! I started out playing outdoors, and our club was always well behind the other teams in the area becasue we were having trouble with outdoor ice even here in Minnesota (it's just been too warm...). Have fun shooting there! :D

Wow you know refs that don't get paid to be abused?!?!?!?!

Officiating to me started as a means to keep my head above water for money. Little did I know it would lead to doing College, AAA, and every level of wonderful Ice/Roller hockey I could imagine.

Thanks for giving the love to the 3 blind ice mice, Dan!

:D

My dad and I ref on the same high school football crew. There was a photographer one game that kept bouncing back and forth from my dad's sideline and mine. Come to find out, he was a football official from another association and wanted to get some good shots of just the zebras. He sent me a DVD with about 80 shots of my crew. It was a nice gesture and he got some great shots.
